|Introduction to the College of Physics and Materials Science|
The School of Physics was one of the oldestdepartments of Tianjin Normal University at its foundation in 1958.Thedepartment was renamed as the current name, the College of Physics and Materials Science, in 2013.
A student-centered system is operating inthis college. The education motivation of the college is to enrich Physics and Materialsknowledge for the students and to improve their ability of innovation andcooperation.
The College consists of two primary departments:Physics and Applied Physics. The Physics is a key major of the university, andthe Applied Physics is awarded as a municipal-level major. The college has alsoa Physics Experiment Centre, which is honoured as the Demonstration TeachingCenter by the municipal Education Committee. Undergraduate students majored ineither Physics or Applied Physics can get many opportunities for hands-ontraining through our Experiment Teaching Program, which has been accepted andfollowed by many other schools in China.
There are several research platforms, including the Research Centre for Astrophysics and Universe, the CosmologyLaboratory, the Research Centre of Energy and Materials Science. Through the financialsupports of both the State and the Municipal government, the College hasreceived more than 10,000,000 RMB investment in recent 5 years, and manyhigh-level apparatuses, both for undergraduate teaching and academic research, have been purchased, which significantly improves our teaching and scientificresearch conditions.
At the Master’s level, students can chooseto study Astrophysics, Condensed Matter Physics, Theoretical Physics, Physicsand Chemistry of Materials, Optics, Atomic and Molecular Physics, etc.
Currently our school has 71 faculty membersand supporting staff, including 10 full professors and 21 associate professors.More than 90% of the faculty have doctorates.
